"Literacy For All Learners" 

CALL FOR PAPERS
27th ANNUAL ALABAMA FEDERATION 
of the COUNCIL FOR EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN (AFCEC)
SUPER CONFERENCE 2007

The Executive Board of the Alabama Federation of the Council for Exceptional Children
invites interested persons to submit presentation proposals.

Submission Deadline: November 23, 2007
E-mail attachment ONLY…no fax or postal submissions will be accepted


Selection Criteria: The Program Chairperson, Program Advisory Committee and division presidents are responsible for the selection of proposals. The group will strive not only for the acceptance of high quality proposals but also overall program balance. 

Proposal Instructions: Proposals must include all of the following information to be considered for review:
 

1. Title of Presentation 

2. Abstract - 50 words or less (to be used in the program)

3. Description of the Proposal: 300–500 words providing a detailed description of the presentation, including learner outcomes (1 – 3 outcomes describing the skills, knowledge, and/or behaviors that participants will be able to demonstrate after the session), session objectives, how it addresses the conference theme, and how it is organized to ensure the attainment of the objectives.

4. Type of Session Requested: There are 5 presentation formats available. Select the session type that best suits your proposal from those listed below. Please note the time allowed for the format you choose.

  • Concurrent Session: Sessions are one hour in which the presenter(s) inform participants about a topic relevant to the field. 
  • Mini-Workshop: Two-hour sessions designed to provide instruction with a high degree of participant involvement. Mini-workshops take an in-depth look at promising research-based practices or current issues. Participants will learn strategies and specific techniques to enhance their knowledge and repertoire of skills in a particular area of practice.

  • Panel:  One hour sessions which are moderated and interactive. Panel sessions include participant interaction with the panelists.

  • Student Poster Session:  University students (undergraduate and graduate) are invited to present a research project, a program, a project, or a learning/teaching strategy.  These sessions will be one hour long and are designed for university students to develop and improve conference presentation skills.  The poster must be an exhibit of high quality that can stand alone in conveying information. The student must attend the session and be prepared to address questions.  Awards will be given for outstanding poster presentations.

  •  
  • Round Table:  One hour sessions in which teachers and administrators are invited to present a learning/teaching strategy that they have found successful.  Each presenter will host an informal and personalized tabletop presentation. Multiple tables will be in the session room.  Tabletop presentations must include visual support materials and resource handouts for participants. 
  • 5. Strands: A broad range of topics relevant to special education and related areas will be included in the conference program. Be sure to include the following information.

    6. Submitting Proposals

    Cover Sheet:  Submit a one page cover sheet with ALL presenters listed. One presenter must be designated as the session leader. The cover sheet should include the following presentation identification and information for each presenter:

    1. Name, Position, Employing Agency/Organization
    2. Street Address, City, State, Zip Code 
    3. Telephone number(s) 
    4. E-mail Address 
    5. Qualifications/Experience with Proposed Topic
    Include the information in #1-#5 above.

    Submission Guidelines: All the information outlined above should be saved in a word document and e-mailed as an attachment to Betty Nelson at benelson@uab.edu or Richard Gargiulo at gargiulo@uab.edu

    Notification of Acceptance: Lead presenters will be notified via e-mail of the status of their proposal by December 20, 2006. 

    Conference Presenters: All conference presenters must preregister for the conference. This fee must be paid before accepted proposals will be included in the final conference program. The pre-registration deadline is December 14th.  There will be no refunds after January 11th.

    AFCEC PROVIDES OVERHEAD PROJECTORS AND SCREENS FOR ALL SESSIONS.
    IT IS EXPRESSLY UNDERSTOOD THAT ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT (I.E. COMPUTER, LCD PROJECTOR) AND ASSOCIATED COSTS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PRESENTER.
